Celebrating 50 Years in Sayville!

The Three Year Old Class

has Jenn Burns as the teacher. She has worked in early childhood education for over twenty years. She has an undergraduate degree in History/ Political Science from Stony Brook and a Masters in Elementary Education from Hofstra. Mrs. Burns is certified N-6 and has taught the Three year old class, Pre-K and first grade.  Mrs. Burns was the team leader and one of the people who began LaSalle primary school.  She taught at LaSalle for 9 years and UCP for the last 15 years.  She loves teaching children at the age of 3 because they have such wonder and excitement and a yearning to ask, WHY? "I love to see the spark in their eyes when something finally makes sense or the satisfaction when they complete a task."

The Three or Four Day Pre-K Class

is taught by Mrs. Dini, who has over 25 years of experience teaching young children. She has been with United Church Preschool for 20 years and before that taught pre-school for 8 years. Mrs. Dini has a degree from SUNY Farmingdale in Early Childhood Education. She continued her studies and graduated from LIU Post College with a degree in Elementary Education. Later, she received her Master's degree in education from Adelphi. Mrs. Dini is K-6 certified. Her three children attended United Church Preschool many years ago and she enjoyed the friendly and caring environment. Knowing that it was a wonderful place for children to grown she returned to teach. She feels such joy coming to school everyday; it is so rewarding to see the world through the eyes of a preschooler.

The Five Day Pre K Class

is instructed by Mrs. Dasaro who is a certified (N-6) teacher with over 30 years experience teaching young children. She wanted to become a teacher since she was a child. Mrs. Dasaro began her career as a elementary and special education teacher, earning her masters degree in both from Brooklyn College.  After 7 years at the NYC Department of Education Mrs. Dasaro took time off to raise her own family of 4 children, three of whom attended United Church Preschool. Her love of children lead her to become a nursery teacher. After working in Longwood for several years she came to teach at UCP and has remained for 20 years. "When you work at something you love it's not a job." That describes my feelings in a nutshell.

Baby and Me & Mommy and Me Classes

Mrs. Dini co-teaches this class with Lisa Rubino who is a current parent.  See above to read the biography on Mrs. Dini.

Mrs. Rubino is mom to five children, all of whom attend or have attended UCP.  Prior to having children, Lisa taught elementary school grades K, 1, 3 and 4.  She has a bachelors degree from Hofstra University in Elementary Education and is certified K-6.  In addition she has master degrees in reading and math, science, technology from Hofstra University, as well.  She loves teaching our youngest UCP students through literature, arts and crafts, music and playtime!

Assistant Teacher/ Cooking Class

Mrs. Powers, who assists in each of the classes, also teaches the cooking enrichment class.  She graduated from SUNY Oneonta with a degree in Elementary Education. Then she taught both Kindergarten and Preschool before having her own children.  All three of her children attended United Church Preschool before she came to teacher here!  She looks forward to sharing her delicious recipes in the cooking class!
